Strengthening Grid Integration with BESS
Training in Windhoek / Namibia

RENAC caters to the rising demand for BESS with online and in-person training courses.
In the past ten years, the cost of Battery Energy Storage Systems has fallen by around 80%. This decline makes their role in providing energy shifting and ancillary services more and more feasible and strengthens their business case. As a result, BESS is becoming an important tool for integrating variable renewable energy into the grid and for ensuring stable grid operation.
Between 28 July and 01 August, RENAC conducted the in-person Training “Battery Energy Storage Systems: Project Feasibility and Development“ in Windhoek / Namibia.
The training covered all aspects of BESS Project Development, including system design & sizing, battery technology selection, specification and selection of BESS components, financial modelling and risk assessment, codes and standards, safety design and mitigation measures, product warranty and performance guarantees, system-level acceptance testing, grid integration, O&M, and cybersecurity.

Perfect preparation: Before the in-person training, participants did the RENAC online training „Battery Energy Storage Systems for Grid Ancillary Services“.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Green Hydrogen Specialist:
Project Development and Economics
Join us and gain the expertise needed to transform green hydrogen concepts into viable projects.
The Green Hydrogen Specialist programme starting on 1 October 2025 equips participants with the expertise to develop bankable projects and move them towards realisation.

Build bankable green hydrogen projects – enrol now

Many green hydrogen projects worldwide are delayed – not for lack of ambition, but due to financing hurdles. High capital costs, uncertain off-take agreements, missing infrastructure, and unclear rules make it difficult to move from planning to implementation.

Being well educated and knowledgeable is the first step to overcoming these barriers. The asynchronous e-learning programme Green Hydrogen Specialist - Project Development and Economics equips participants with the skills to develop bankable project concepts and identify viable pathways to realisation.

Building a strong pipeline of projects and securing reliable off-take agreements are essential for accelerating the hydrogen economy – and this programme offers practical guidance on both.

The next intake starts on 1 October 2025 – join and gain the expertise to turn concepts into financeable projects.

From Online to On-Site: ETRELA Academic Ambassadors Meet in Quito

In August 2025, ETRELA launched its first seminar, marking the official start of the project’s implementation phase. Nearly 80 participants completed the ETRELA Online Academy, gaining flexible, digital training on renewable energy. From this group, 15 academic ambassadors representing 7 countries from Latin America and the Caribbean were selected for the in-person phase held in Quito, Ecuador, and hosted by the ETRELA project led by OLADE.

The intensive training, managed by Mr. Rafael Juan Marti of RENAC, focused on the Economics of Renewable Energy. Equipped with new expertise, the academic ambassadors will now return to their universities to integrate these insights into teaching and research, ensuring that students across Latin America benefit directly.

Funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI), this milestone marks an important step forward in building regional capacity and advancing the energy transition through academic collaboration. And this is just the beginning: upcoming trainings will dive deeper into key renewable energy technologies, including photovoltaics, wind power, and solar thermal
