Scaling Green Finance: Green Banking Project Enters New Phase in Johannesburg & Nairobi

Over the past few weeks, we have marked two major milestones in our Green Banking – Capacity Building on Green Energy & Climate Finance programme! On January 30th in Johannesburg and February 5th in Nairobi, we had the privilege of presenting the initiative to key stakeholders in green energy and finance, reinforcing our commitment to advancing sustainable finance in South Africa and Kenya.

With 50 participants in Johannesburg and 95 in Nairobi, both events saw vibrant discussions, insightful presentations, and enthusiastic engagement from industry leaders, policymakers, and financial experts. Attendees were eager to learn more about our scholarship programme, asked insightful questions, and expressed strong interest in deepening collaborations around green energy and climate finance.

These journeys marked the beginning of the project’s roll-out in all partner countries and will be followed shortly by Launch events in Indonesia, Columbia, and Brazil. Held in partnership with IFC’s Green Banking Academy, the German Embassies, and local banking associations, the Green Banking Launch Events mark another step in consolidating our relationships with key stakeholders in our partner countries. With 100 scholarships available per country, we look forward to empowering local professionals with the skills and knowledge to drive the energy transition forward.

A heartfelt thank you to all our partners and participants for making these launches a success!

Stay tuned for the upcoming application phase and training details by subscribing to our tailored Green Banking Newsletter.

PROJECTS
MENALINKS Study Tour: Advancing Energy Solutions in MENA

The first MENALINKS study tour in Berlin was filled with three days of intensive knowledge exchange. The study tour focused on flexibility technologies, smart grids and financing solutions for the integration of renewable energies.

RENAC, as a partner in the MENALINKS consortium, provided expert insights for participants from Morocco, Egypt and Jordan. The program, led by Guidehouse CE&I and funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI), promotes sector coupling and innovative energy solutions in five countries in MENA: Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia and Türkiye.

Highlights of the trip included visits to the BMWK, the Siemens ENSURE showroom and 50Hertz Transmission GmbH. The participants also had the opportunity to expand their knowledge and discuss the challenges of flexibility solutions in workshops on flexibility and financing. A visit to the EUREF-Campus Berlin rounded off the program.

The trip brought together key players in the energy transition in the partner countries. Together we are shaping the future of energy!

BETD Round Table: Advancing Green Energy in Academic Programs

The BSW (German Solar Association) together with RENAC organized a round table on “Academic Workforce Development for Global Energy Transition” within the international conference on energy transition BETD, Berlin, on the 19th of March.

Still around two third of energy related study programs world wide focus on fossil fuels, causing a carbon lock-in in careers and stranded skill sets hindering energy transition.

Around 30 speakers and participants from international organisations like DAAD, Federal Foreign Office, ISA, IRENA, EU and Misereor gathered to exchange on ways and activities to foster the integration of green energy technologies into study programs of universities.

ISA Training in Côte d'Ivoire

On behalf of the International Solar Alliance, RENAC organised 4 PV training courses in Côte d'Ivoire. These hands-on trainings  were all about installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of small-scale rooftop solar PV and solar mini-grid of capacity up to 100 kWp.

Take a look at what the participants learned. We wish them all the best of luck with their upcoming PV projects.
